Meeting and Agenda Minutes
SPA Minutes for February 8, 2010

Meeting was called to order at 5:35 pm by Joyce Chapman.

Once again, we had a nice turnout and everyone introduced themselves.

STUDENT COUNCIL REPORT: Madison Dodge gave the Student Council Report. They are excited about "Love of Reading Week" and are holding a book drive. All needed books will go to our new library and any extra books will be donated. The class with the most books will be awarded a $5 certificate to a local bookstore for each student.

Jason's Deli was a DC Fundraiser and they made $224. Thanks to Amy Rod for organizing this and all the people who ate at Jason's Deli.

NEW BUSINESS: "Love of Reading Week" is upon us! We will be having guest readers this week, teachers will be reading and talking about their favorite books at flag, and we will have a read-in assembly!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Haiti funds. We raised over $1,000. Ms. Pretzel and Ms. Pena's students also donated pizza party and eegee party funds to Haiti. We are very proud of all our students!

The water fountain issue (needed repairs) has been addressed and is being taken care of by maintenance. Ms. Susie will follow up on this for us.

Don't forget SKATE COUNTRY is coming up! Join us for fun and skating February the 24th from 6-8 pm. No school the following day so we expect to see you all there.

Mark your calendars for CHUCK E. CHEESE NIGHT. March 9th from 4-8 pm.

Open House and Kinder Round Up is Thursday the 18th. SPA has agreed to help with childcare, greeting, cookies and lemonade and setting up a uniform display. We could use your help. The event will be from 5-6:30 pm. Please send me an e-mail if you can help!

All lost and found items will be given away the 15th. If you are looking for a jacket or other items, get them now!!!

OLD BUSINESS: SPA voted to purchase two bleachers for the basketball court. They will replace the green pic nic tables on the side. Each bleacher will hold 90 people. Joyce will get the paperwork to Ms. Susie so we can get these ordered. Loren and the maintenance guys will put them up for us.

Lori has given up on Fry's. After several attempts to get us hooked up with the "Cool Cash" program she is still not able to get the VIP link we need. LeeAnn is going to see if she can get it to work with her card at a different location.

TREASURER REPORT: Susan was not able to make the meeting. If you would like to see the report, let me know and I will get you a copy.

REQUEST FOR FUNDS: Ms. Wendy has asked for $88 to purchase a Math Facts kit for each of the first grade classes. SPA voted to grant her request.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Box Tops- Mary has started a new contest. It will run through February and every student who turns in 10 box tops with their name on them will get a chance to win one of several Target Gift Cards!

Donation- Crystal is still collecting silent auction items for SPAghetti. She has done an amazing job so far, but she needs help. I have letters for anyone who would like to take one to someone they think may have a service or product to donate. Please let me know if you need one and I will get it to you. We are also working on getting it on the SPA web site so you can just print them as needed.

Spelling Bee- Awesome job Susan, Joyce and everyone who helped. So far we have made over $3,000. Because this was the first year we were not sure what to expect, but overall it was pretty great! Prizes will be awarded Thursday the 11th and the Chuck E. Cheese trip will be Tuesday the 16th.

Library- Jennifer has been a busy bee. The committee has sent out a survey to all the teachers asking how they would like to use the library. An inventory list has been sent to each classroom so that the committee can assess what books we have and what we need. The committee has been looking at software for the library along with shelving and a bar code system. At this time, it looks like the committee will need about $4,000 to get basic start-up expensed covered.

Uniform Recycling- Thanks to Laura and Carrie for all their time and energy they put into recycling uniforms. They have made $116 so far.

Birthdays- LeeAnn is doing such a great job that the staff is insisting she do the birthday committee next year too. Thanks for all your hard work LeeAnn (and Bruce).

SPAghetti- TJ McGreevy has set a date for May 1st. We understand with will be the same time the DC Students are away, but with everything going on this time of year this is the best date. TJ has looked into inflatables and will make a decision regarding how many to get as we get closer. He has done a lot of planning so far and has lots more to do. More to come on SPAghetti soon. Please save the date! If you would like to help with this event or have any items or services to donate please let me know so that I can put you in touch with TJ.

DR. SALIBA'S REPORT: Dr. Saliba talked briefly about the Microsoft Conference. He mentioned again how important "Love of Reading Week" is and some of the events taking place this week. With Open House/Kinder Round Up coming up, Dr. Saliba stressed how much it would benefit our school to have full enrollent. Full enrollment=Full funding! At this time, we are looking to fill 4th, 5th and 7th grade. This event is a great time so show off what a wonderful school we have. Please spread the word to anyone you know looking for a great place to educate their children. Star Base Graduation is coming up soon.

CONGRATULATIONS to Emma Wilkie! Our TCDS Spelling Bee winner. She will be competing in the County Spelling Bee this Saturday! Please let her know how proud of her we are when you see her.

Next SPA Meeting is March 8th at 5:30 pm
Next Board Meeting is March 23rd at 9:00 am

Meeting was adjourned at 6:45 pm by Joyce Chapman.
