Meeting and Agenda Minutes
SPA MINUTES FOR MARCH 8, 2010

Meeting was called to order by Joyce Chapman at 5:30 pm.

INTRODUCTIONS:
Introductions were not necessary since we all knew each other.

STUDENT COUNCIL:
Madison and Ben were not able to make the meeting so we had no Student Council Report.

NEW BUSINESS:

We discussed the Chuck E. Cheese night. Thanks to Amy Rod for setting this up and Tracey Smalling for providing us with raffle items!

Book Fair is here! We will have a student and teacher preview this week and next week the Book Fair will run each day after school. For more information or to help with the Book Fair please contact Mrs. Davidson or Ms. V. SPA will provide an Eegee's Party to the K-5 grade with the most books purchased. SPA has also provided gift cards to be used as a middle school incentive to purchase books.

AIMS Testing is coming up in April. SPA has agreed to help provide healthy snacks on testing days. We will be asking parents to help provide the snacks. Dr. Saliba and Joyce will compile a suggested menu and we will be asking for donations. SPA has also agreed to provide playground supervision on April 6th so the entire staff may attend a mandatory meeting. If you are interested in helping on the playground from 7:30-8:40 am please let me know.

It is very important that you have your student(s) in attendance for the AIMS Testing. Please help to make sure they are well rested and ready to go.

Olympiad will be April 16th. This is a great event and always a lot of fun for the students. If you are able to help, please contact Ms. Jacque.

SPA will again provide an end of the year Water Day for K-5! This will be the last day of school (May 20th). We are also working on providing a Movie Day for Middle School. Mrs. Davidson is looking into the Theater and we need to work out transportation.

Smarty Party is March 26th!

New Web Site is up and running! We cannot thank Miguel and Lucinda Peralta enough. Please check out the site and take advantage of all the information. Make sure you thank the Peraltas when you see them. I am sure many, many hours went into this project.

Congratulations to Jamie Porter! We understand our student won the "Young Writer Competition" and will receive an award at the U of A Festival of Books.

SPA will be sending out election forms for the position of Vice President and Treasurer. These positions are up for re-election.

OLD BUSINESS

The bleachers have arrived and Loren and the maintenance staff will be getting them up ASAP.

All the water fountains have been fixed! (Thanks Loren)

Skate Country was a huge success! Thanks Ms. Nicky for picking the best dates. We raised $382.

TREASURER

Susan gave the Treasurer Report. We discussed establishing a set amount to keep in our bank account from year to year. Susan and Joyce will discuss this and we will put the amount in our by-laws. We will also be working on a budget over the summer so that we can have an idea from year to year what we project to spend on each category.

SPA approved $250 for Ms. Nicky to purchase playground equipment.

SPA approved $114 for Ms. Kari to purchase seat sacks.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Box Tops-Contest will end March 15th! Hurry up and get your box tops in.
Donations-Crystal needs help. We need lots of items for SPAghetti. Please, if you know anyone who can donate a good or service let us know.
Scripts-SPA decided we are not able to make Scripts a worthwhile fundraiser. We will be dropping this as part of our fundraising efforts.
Library-Jennifer needs lots of help. These teachers still need to have their books listed: Ms. Rodriguez, Ms. Sherrod, Ms. Maddock, Ms. Pretzel, Mrs. Davidson and Ms. Wanda. Contact Jennifer or myself ASAP if you are able to help.
SPAghetti-TJ is working hard on this event and would love any help you can give him! Save the date, May 1st.
Penny Wars-Coming soon so start saving those pennies.

DR. SALIBA'S REPORT

The electricity is on in the new building! Mr. Cooper is working hard to have the building open ASAP!

Attendance for the first quarter was 95.3% and the second quarter was 94.3%. Lets really try to keep our students in class whenever they are healthy!

Kinder Round-Up/Open House was a big success. We are still working to fill 4th, 5th and 7th grades.
Full Enrollment=Full Funding!

Assessments on students are being done four times a year. The assessments are a useful tool in determining where our students need to improve. If you are interested in finding out how your child is doing on the assessments please feel free to contact Dr. Saliba. At this time, teachers are really focusing on math facts in lower grades.

Emma (our spelling bee winner) will be principal for a day on March 19th. Please make sure to congratulate her when you see her.
